First time poster, long time reader. Hopefully I don't make a fool of myself with a dumb question!

Have a 4550 in our showroom which was intermittently giving us an f000 on startup, which service manual and this forum pointed to main pwb and operation pwb as the wiring harness checked out. Parts came in and I swapped everything out.

Now on startup I get a u0640 which is Hard Disk Error, I've checked connectors and ran U024 to initialize but nothing. I updated firmware, which went smoothly except I got an error on the PDF portion. Could the HDD's failed also, perhaps just coincidence?

I'm new to the forum and new to working on MFP's so any suggestions are appreciated. Hopefully, in time, I'll be answering other peoples threads.

It could have been the HDD in the first place. I had a similar issue with a HDD problem

HDD came in a while ago but I've been busy with actual customer machines so I didn't get a chance to install them until yesterday.

Installed hdd, loaded new firmware, turned it on...... f000. Rebooted machine thinking maybe a fluke. Booted fine, print maintenance report, go to make some copies and now it's showing F183, which isn't in the service manual.

I've found a couple mentions via Google but nothing concrete. Any suggestions?

You probably should have immediately re-loaded firmware after installing the HDD. It may still work. =^..^=

Have you tried replacing the Memory?

Initialize the Memory after reformatting the HDD. I had this trouble before.

Now for F183, hope this works.

F18x - An error is detected at the Video control section.

Either Engine board or Main board. Try replacing the Engine Board first.

Then update the F/W.

Hope it helps. Thanks!

Main board has been swapped..... haven't swapped the engine board. Got a call into Kyocera so it's out of my hands. Once/if they can solve it I'll pass the info along.

Also try the SATA cable that connects the HDD, we have had at least two machines with ongoing HDD codes where that was the fix.

Normally this problem is caused by the SATA cables. On early machines they were quite flakey! I have had several of these, normally the SATA cable fixes unless customers have not been powering the machine down correctly, then the HDDs fail.

I had one with the cf000 and the c0640 replaced the hard drive and ran mm 024 and mm 021 worked fine afterward and since yours is a showroom machine you have no customer info to lose.
