We're having problems printing some PDF files, its only a rare problem, but we can't figure out what's wrong. In the above images the one on the right is the source image (converted to jpg here, but it is a pdf) the one on the left is how it's printed by our C8000 with command workstation. I've managed to get it to print by inserting the source PDF into Print Shop Mail file, and printing as a PDF. All the elements of the PDF prints when we send it to one of 1200p b&w printers, and also prints fine on our c-5501, so why not the 8000?

Any ideas about this would be greatly appreciated

PDF files may have color space embedded. You can check the image using Preflight in Adobe Acrobat Pro or Postflight it on the Fiery if you have the advanced features enabled. Another product called enFocus Pitstop also allows you to analyze pdf files for printing issues.

Hi,
Are you importing the PDF directly into command workstation or printing via driver to command workstation?
What version is the Fiery running?
Later model fiery's have APPE so it doesnt convert to postscript data. this could be the reason why the C5501 works.
If you print via the driver it will convert to postscript.

We have had this problem before but found what appears to be an Adobe problem. When we printed the file by opening it in Adobe Reader and printing through the Fiery driver, certain diagrams/images would not print. Opening the same file on the same computer to the same printer - but using Adobe Acrobat - and everything printed perfectly. Running "Preflight" on the files didn't identify any issues. So our somewhat low-tech solution was to always print PDFs from Acrobat when we had to print through the driver.
