Yes you can however the machine can be picky and reject it too. Make sure you get the exact same specs or just slightly bigger and when you format it with bizhub it will only use what it needs. DO NOT GO TOO BIG, be close. Sometimes its trial and error (brands/exactly how big) like the USB sticks; the bizhubs are just... picky about it. Once you find one that works, stick with it.

Yes. It is the same with most brand MFD's. Rule of thumb: No smaller than orginal, no bigger than 2tb. I find WD HDD's to be the most reliable.

Initialize the drive first in a Windows PC without formatting. Install in machine. For the C220 280 360, if possible, uninstall the HDD in service mode before removing it. After installing the new one, install it in service mode again and then do the logical format in the machine. (Don't do a Physical format unless you want to watch it for a couple hours :D)

When the hard disk is replaced:
• Select [State Confirmation] → [Memory/HDD Adj.] → [HDD Format] in Service Mode for logical format.
• Reinstallation of movie data and OCR dictionary data.
• Resetting of HDD lock password
