Customer has authentication activated for the BH-423 for use as copier and printer. This works well for both. However when authentication is set up, the normal use of an USB-Stick for printing and scanning from and to that stick is inhibited, it shows:

"External memory has been detected (installed). Currently, this feature cannot be used."

If authentication is off the same stick can be used for both printing and scanning.

Did I overlook something or is there a limitation from this otherwise fine machine?

Did you try to switch on print without authentication to see if that works? Switch on public access on try that. You can scan and print without authentication so print and scan to usb is switched on. It uses a "box" for removable storage maybe a box setting is not ok.

Theres a setting in admin mode, user box settings, external memory function settings..... that you have to enable the print and scan features from usb jump drive. The machines come with it disabled....

Also there are settings to restrict and allow settings under the user authentication settings.....

No, that has been set and is working without authentication and those settings I know but possibly they where unset by all the experimenting. Will check them again. Thanks.

By default, "scan to and print from" external memory is set to restrict for the public user regardless of your settings under external memory settings in admin mode. You have to "allow " under public user default permission to use this feature. EMujo
