I'll try to post a pic. This machine is locked up. Says malfunction detected. Turn the main power off and on
no dice. I tries to trouble reset. No dice. And I can't even get into the utility mode. To look at any counters or anything. Any thoughts?

start up in trouble reset mode, dont touch trouble reset button when it appears and go into service mode at that screen immediately and go straight to service code history.

you will have to be quick as once the controller locks, so will service mode and you will have to restart the machine and try again.

Is that procedure in the book? I have been looking and looking for hours I. The book. I will certainly try this procedure. And get back to you. Thanks a mill!

It's simple, and works almost across the board on all KM machines:
Power Off, hold Utility and power On. Continue to hold Utility until you see the service mode.

If there is a CE password, you'll have to enter that.

Easy Peasy. =^..^=

I've no idea how anyone would of done developer changes on bizhub 500 series without knowing this, unless you do it with the machine left on during the job.

It always would error on power on and wouldnt let you in service mode with a door open - If my memory serves me correctly.

but this was always how i restarted the machine and run adjustments after a PM on that series. I'm aware this is a 601, I am story telling, something all copier techs do at times ;)

My guess is that our poster doesn't see many 601's, and is working primarily from manual reading, not experience. I find myself in the same situation with Toshibas these days. Little applicable Toshiba experience, but I can (and do) read a manual. In this way I consider myself to be a Generalist rather than a Specialist. When I started in the field I worked on Mita DC-313Z's exclusively for the first year. I could work on them in my sleep (Specialist). It takes guts and time under the bus to approach with only a manual, and willingness to look foolish (Generalist). =^..^=

I am a little confused. yes I have a few of these machines in the field. not that many. I specialize in the bizhub 423 421 series. and the older stuff and newer color. I am aware how to start the machine holding the utility button and it comes to trouble mode. but I have just never had a machine just say malfunction and not state a code for me to work with. and it won't let me just go into the counters or utility to go into service.
as far as that bizhub 500 comment? you said you were story telling.. are you? because on a normal workin machine it is very easy to access the tech rep and replace developer and all the functions. this will not allow me to. I

I do appreciate your posts.. just trying to make it work

and I do post a lot on this site to help other techs.

thanks

Had this on a Bizhub 751 on Friday and it was a transfer/sep cleaning assembly position error. A sensor had come away from its housing and therefore the copier didn't know that the cleaning assembly was moving. The sensors can also get covered in toner/dev with the same result.

Guy. Did the display show just exactly as mine does? With no codes?

I've seen this with a bent bracket inside the finisher that was preventing the stacker guides from performing their initial movements.

Pull out the stacker assy, and look towards the back. There is a metal guide of some sort that is only mounted on one end. It's about the size of your finger.
I've had this situation multiple times.

User may bend it while removing a jam. Now it blocks the movement of the rear stacker guide. Callout number 11 in top of the image. You'd hear a noise with this situation though.

i could disconnect the finisher. And see. But I don't hear any noise. It tries to warm up. The fuser is hot. Hourglass comes on. Then thr konica minolta. Then right to the screen

Tomorrow morning I am going to go back. Today was my day off and I had to go in to work. I will print off this thread and see what I can do about the first suggestion. Going into the trouble screen. Thanks

Had one like this recently. Turned out to be corrupted finisher firmware.

ok after the reset and trouble mode. I was able to go into counters and reset counters and have it malfunction again
it came up with a c2701 code I think. then there it was as clear as day.. broken corona wire. I was expecting a code.. or something.. but I am sure the live corona was arcing out on the drum and this is how it works. anyways I couldn't be happier. and appreciate all the help. and now I know how to get into that service mode in this type of sitiation. generally with a code you can still access the service mode.. now I know. props to you all

If you don't turn on the switch to display jam/failure codes, these machines will show nothing. It's correct to enter service mode but don't reset the error until after you see it listed. Sometimes it shows it in the upper right hand corner of the screen in service mode.
