This is a super weird problem, in all my 20 plus years servicing copiers and printers I've never seen something like this.

Copying a color original, either on the glass or through ADF, only red parts of the image shows up on copy, (no black, cyan, or yellow, or any other color).

When I print a demo, the one with the colorful tropical bird, or if I print a config or network page, or any other report directly from the MFP, all the colors show and the print is perfect.

But now wait, when I scan a color image to a USB flash drive, using the ADF or glass, the image on the USB flash drive is also perfect and clean, all colors show up. (Which rules out the scanner assembly up in the glass).

I am thinking this is a board issue of some sort?

Anyone seen something like this?

I have yet to update the firmware, but never done one on these yet.

Any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Other brand copier machines have a function to print with a single colour only. You can then assign that single colour as the machine default. I'm not sure about the X734 but it sounds like someone is playing a prank with a single default red/magenta colour setting.

Is it possible that the other colors work sometimes, and, by coincidence, you just happen to run the reports while it's working? I've seen HP colors stop and start working, due to the transfer assembly. Never seen it in a Lexmark, though. That's weird. Make sure to post whatever you find on it. Hopefully, the customer will let you fix it instead of replacing it.

NeoMatrix: thanks for the response, i totally forgot about a feature like that. I did not check the settings at the touchscreen if single color "red" was enabled, but I did print out a "Copy Settings" report here:

27706

It does not show a feature like single color was enabled. In any case, I'll stop by the customer's office and do a restore to default "settings", perhaps that might do it.

Thanks again!

I don't believe this Lexie has the single color print function. It's obviously image processing that's malfunctioning, which takes place on the controller board. Upgrading the firmware probably won't help, but costs you only the time involved in doing it. =^..^=

blackcat,
thanks for the input.
would that be the System Board item 3 below? Rear of machine, big square PCB?

big bucks from amazon at $600 (http://www.amazon.com/40X5200-Lexmark-System-Network-X734DE/dp/B00BN3OV76), or maybe $475 (iteminconline (http://www.iteminconline.com/40X5200_40X5200-Lexmark-X734-System-Board-Network-275.htm)), any suggestions for sources on this PCB, perhaps even a board repair facility that repairs PCBs for Lexmarks?

thanks!

Try Hytec, we've had some positive results from them; I don't know if they do Lexmark though.

Strange thing is, I went back to the customer's office today to deliver waste toner bottles, and the customer said he had reset or reboot the copier after I left a week ago and now everything is working fine. This is so frustrating. Hopefully it will stick, the customer will monitor and let me know.

thanks for everyone's feedback. I really appreciate it

This is probably a long shot, but if you can, monitor the voltage supplied by the outlet the machine is plugged into. I haven't seen that cause problems that I can identify in Lexmarks yet. But I have seen other machines react badly when the voltage supplied by the outlet the machine is plugged into is out of spec. In many of those cases, turning the machine off, and maybe unplugging it for a while as well takes care of the problem. That procedure is what at least I refer to as "rebooting" the machine.
Something to think about at least. Sorry if it was a waste of time, though.
Oh, and if it does turn out to be a board problem, you might check "Parts Now (http://www.partsnow.com/)" to see if they can help you out.

Unfortunately Lexmark boards cannot be swapped between machines, you will need to purchase new from Lexmark. The system board is pricey for this model.
