Good evening everyone.

I've got a handful of machines wich, for several reasons (board replacement, NVRAM replacement, FW update), have the dreaded Licence Error message.

Is it still imperative to have access to LMS to get around this or is there another procedure?

Cheers!

Maybe someone will correct me, but I believe you still need to go through the LMS procedures.
What models?

C451 and I believe a C353 or similar.

Un till someone cracks the code and makes a key generator, then free LK's for all!

Guys, I will tell you a secret... you can take _any_ valid pair of initialization code/serial number and use this as many times as you wish to repair _any_ machine with license management error.

You can use for example this one - from BH421:
MFP Serial Number: A0R6021006374
Initialization Code: 2VRA4-UGGA2-Z2H4K-7AVUH-F58SW-J2Z7U-QVKVK

It doesn't matter that you have a problem with C451 or C203 or C224e, just set above S/N in the machine and use above initialization code, then restart machine and set back original S/N, reboot again - license management problem will be solved.

That's nice. Now if anyone had those for C451 and C353... 😊

No, no, you don't need initialization codes for particular machine types - as I wrote, they are interchangeable, so you can use BH421 serial+code to initilize C353 !!!

That's even better! Need to try and get one. Thanks for the top tip.

That is interesting observation. Now if my C554e SSD PWB fails and I'll give it your serial for instance I doubt when I ask for replacement of SSD that the list output will be legit for warranty. Plus its a free tool to KM techs and it takes about 5 min anyway. Good for those who like to appear as newborn at the age of 700k + . But hey what do I know about fashion, retro is always in.

OK for clarity, if you have a problem with "License management error" in _ANY_ machine type, please follow procedure below.

1. Go to the service mode and change machine serial number to A0R6021006374 (must be uppercase)
2. Reboot the machine (turn off/on main power switch)
3. Go again to the service mode, then [STOP]->[9], then [License Management]->[Initialize]
4. Use following initialization code: 2VRA4-UGGA2-Z2H4K-7AVUH-F58SW-J2Z7U-QVKVK
5. Reboot machine again
6. One more time go to service mode and set back your original serial number
7. Last reboot, and you should have no error

ANY means:

Bizhub 601/751
Bizhub 223/283/363/423

Now drop here a link for firmware patch, that gets rid off security dotted matrix and I'll stop using cash completely.

Observation... yes, that's really interesting because it seems that initialization procedure resets hashing/encoding keys across all the boards to factory default, the only important thing for machine to begin initialization procedure are matching s/n+code. According to my knowledge code is just s/n encrypted with elliptic curves algorithm and converted to kind of BASE32 alphabet.

Failed SSD's are unreadable - neither for the machine nor for KM service.
When SSD fails, you don't have a problem with license management error rather, and you don't even need to use my procedure - so it doesn't affect your warranty.
Moreover when you use my procedure you need to set back original serial number, and there is no place where my serial could stay hidden - so in the future when something fails, and you need to prepare log for KM there will be no problem with hidden serial number that doesn't match original one.

Free tool? Which one? There is no off-line tool. Every tool need to contact with LMS.
There is one more thing, some machines with license management errors can't be repaired with LMS and "repair" function, in such case you need to contact KM, send them problem description, printscreens then wait few days to receive what? Oh wow initialization code...

"Newborn"? Could you explain?

I honestly admire the fiery of your mind. :) Algorithms and coding are not my cup of tea to be perfectly honest with you. Kudos to you for the discovery and clear explanation.
Regarding the "newborn". This site provides sometimes the ultimate answers to issues we have hard time to figure efficiently within specified time (a.i. frustrated client / fast-track feedback with solution from tech support). Experience is the Key at Copytechnet. That is why I love to come here/,help if I know solution. However, sharing license information and such information is almost the same like sharing all of the firmwares, that are some so desperate to get without paying for service, techs training etc.

Maybe is just me :) being me and soon I will become obsolete. :)

Free tool for KM TECH there is. I never said is offline.
Please bear with me as I haven't tested your method, but the serial number loop hole still doesn't make sense.
When you initialise machine with ABC serial nr + corresponding ABC code and then you change the serial nr to DEF surely there will be mismatch of equation of serial DEF with ABC code resulting in license management error, or am I missing something.

All the initialize code from KM does is get rid of the license management error, the correct combo of s/n and key code just resets a switch. It does not put any licenses back onto the MFP. You would need the tokens and an active internet connection ( or the original 20 character key) to re-install the licenses, if you tried to retrieve the key code from the LMS site, the serial number would show the licenses already active and wouldn't let you go an further. From what I understand and have seen with some of these issues, putting the token # into the activate section of License management allows the MFP to query the LMS server on its own and re-install the key codes. "Ricky don't lose that Token!!!" Emujo

Hey Jotunn

I get a "invalid entry" when I press apply after inputting the the code, in between step 4 and 5. Any ideas. ( The machine is a BH421)

This works great just used it on a weirded out BH223 that I had to swap a used NVRAM board into due to the nightmarish PKI card system POS. Thanks for the post!

I got the same but I think I was typing Zero and not letter O in the serial number or the other way around, cant remember now. Try it both ways.
Also Pay attention to V and U can appear quite similar

I'm pretty sure their zero's as opposed to the letter "o" I had to take my time entering the info as the machine didnt seem to like me inputting it, but eventually got it and it worked like a charm. Great info and time saver out in the field dont have to listen to the tech whine "I have a license error what do I do" anymore.

Hello, good morning.

I have a problem with bizhub C452. I need your help.

the equipment had the MFP and PRCB plates exchanged, occurring "license management error occurred."

I read your post about the solution, however not perminte machine go into "service mode".

after a few minutes on the machine restarts.

if you can help, I will be grateful.
