I have replaced the drum chips on the C552 without problems. But not having a chip to replace in the C452 drum is a problem for me.
Is this something new? I thought the drums were the same? Or did they hide it somewhere else?

Thanks

Are The IU's/Drums the original units for the machine? I believe the original parts for the +452 don't come with chips but all spare units you order for the machine will have the chips.

MDR24,
Thank you for that post. That does seem to explain everything. Looks like I'll end up buying a set of drums. How about the black
IU drum unit? That is the only one I did not look at. I wonder if I could swap one of those drums to another IU unit with a chip.
As an indy I don't hear about things like this until I run across it in the field.
hh
Thanks again

Why dont you simply change the service mode settings & sw's then you never need to replace the chips, simply replace the image units when they fail, usually 2-3 times past their estimated life, or more if the customer isn't too fussy on CQ!

Copier tech,
I like that suggestion. I will look through the book for that setting.

Thank you for that post. Sometimes it hard to remember that I was suppose to drain the swamp

You break a couple of toner seals if you disassemble the unit, if you can patch that up you can swop the drums and blades.

I am pretty sure its the same as the c650's

Softswitch 51 needs to be 00001100 (hex: 0C) - at least thats what is on a c650 - just checked.
You need to go to Billing once you are in Service Mode (press stop-0-clear) and change the IU stop setting.

I think you have to install firmware to do this--hopefully someone can comment on that further.

Wrong, it's not the same on the C452/552

switch 51 set HEX to F0 fix
switch 55 set HEX to 0C fix

Exit CE mode & go back in, check these HEX settings are still saved (not 00)
If they are not saved you need to update the fw then try again

Max, your right there not in the book.

Thank you copier tech for that info. I will give this a shot. And I will save this post.

If I need firmware I will look around.

Thanks a bunch everyone you just made my day

copier tech,
I went into service to system 2/software switch setting/
entered 51 and entered the hex number, did the same for 55.

Backed out of service mode and checked under utility/counter button.
The Icon for the consumables is still there.

Went back into service and checked the settings. They did not change.
I re entered, backed out of service and cycled the power.

Same result. am I missing something here?

CE mode is that the same as service mode?

I did not see anything for "billing".
I get the feeling I am looking in the wrong place.

What do you think?

Thanks

You will need to update the firmware if the machine wont fix the hex settings

Synaux, no I would close out the service mode then cycle the power.
I will use just the main pwr today & pwr dn from the hex setting screen.

Copier tech, the hex setting does stay there where I set it.

Thanks for checking up on me

For the IU stop setting:
1. Press the Utility/Counter key.
2. Touch [Meter Count] on the touchscreen.
3. Touch [Check Details] on the touchscreen.
4. Press Stop, 0, 0, Stop, 0, 1.
5. Press Stop, 0, C.
6. Touch [IU Life Stop Setting] on the touchscreen.
7. Touch [No Stop] on the touchscreen.
8. Touch [END] on the touchscreen.
9. Touch [Exit] on the touchscreen.

Sounds like you need to update the firmware either way....

OK, those directions make more sense. I was only changing the softwarehttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/) switches. I will use this sequence today and let you
know how I fair. Upgrading the firmware is usually a good thing to do, as long as the next version is sorta bug freehttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/).

Thanks for the info

DR

PS It's challenging being an indy I don't get the tech letters.

What Albonline meant is, there is special IU life enhancement firmware that has to be installed before those soft switches can be changed.
Hope this helps

I meant to edit my post...but god side tracked here at work...

Desert Rat, it is not a firmware upgrade, but rather an enhanced firmware or "special firmware" version: GC4-C4

Well, today I followed those instructionshttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/) and got into the enhanced securityhttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/) mode and found a setting for life stop.
It was set to stop. I changed it to "don't stop". I think I just poweredhttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/) down from there. Was that right?
Checkhttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/) the consumable life under utilities and the IU life indicators were still there, at the same levels. I guess I expected that
consumable life display to disappear?
At any rate I made the setting. And yes the softwarehttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/) changes did fix, as far as I can tell. But only time will tellhttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/) for sure or
is there another place to checkhttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/) that the setting took?

Thanks for all your help. You guys really know your stuff. And thanks for sharing withhttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/) me and everyone else.

The best way is to look at the tiny oil can icon on the bottom of the screen, is it there? if so click on it, if you have L1-2-3-4-5 codes etc that means the setting working & the machine wont ask you again for image units, fuser or transfer unit.

Desert Rat

I checked on the screen display and there is not an oil can Ikon. I ran the machine management list to see the firmware.
I did not see Gc4-c4 anywhere.

I guess I will need to upgrade the firmware as was mentioned.
I have never had to do this and would appreciate any help.

I have heard these machines are sensitive to the size of the usb device.

What size should I have and how should it be partitioned.

Thanks

Hi,
USB Max size is 2GB and format to FAT32.

I will get the 2gig usb and format as needed. Then I will need the firmware.

Are the instructions in the book fairly clear?

Looking at the list of firmware, I can't tell which one would need to replaced or upgraded.

Guess I will be reading myself to sleep this weekend with the service manual.

I hope I'm not imposing to much with this machine.

Simply upgrade to the latest vesion, you dont need the "special" firmware

Desert Rat
04-03-2015, 09:34 PM
It looks like there is about 10 or 12 different items or firmwares. Which one and what is the latest firmware?

Thanks
