Customer called for me to look at this, i normally do Ricoh and Kyocera.
She says it just keeps running but won't print or copy, but will receive faxes.
I asked her if it needs toner but she said she just installed a new toner, and there is no message on the display.
Anything common on these for this symptom, sounds to me like it is trying to add toner.

I'd have to agree. By the time you arrive there will be a toner indication on the screen ... or a C2557. =^..^=

There was a common problem with the bottle rotation gear train where one of the metal shaft pins would bend or tear out of the sheet metal. The machine would continuously with out stop try to add toner with no error or indication.

Was there a fix for that?

yes it now is asking for toner.
so is it the motor, gear or whole assy that goes bad?

Strip and find the problem. The problem i am describing makes a ticking noise as the gear slips.

Strip it out to toner supply drive, you will see see the skewed gear you need to replace the bracket or TIC weld the shaft back on there.

This would be the entire assembly. If you order this it should take care of your problem. I have changed many of these but the first time is a bitch. You have to in addition remove some screws from the back to get it off.

Replace the whole unit, it costs a bit more but it saves the aggravation of disassembling the drive assembly.

So I replaced this nightmare of a part, fired it up, no more clicking, went into add toner mode and then C2557.
Was unable to clear the code, does it now need a developer and drum replacement?

Tweak fix!

Open the developer tank and add a spoon full of toner.
Clear supplies life for the PCU. Restart the machine with the side door open start F8 and close the door.
Sometimes the new gain adjustment will stick.
If the prints are light repeat the process with another spoon full of toner.

Leave the cover off so you can see the toner bottle, run sky shots to see if the bottle turns.

If the bottle turn and c2557 or 2558 returns change the developer.

Make sure every thing is plugged back in.
