The machine (400ci) starts out in sleep mode, first thing in the morning, my customer sends a print job to the machine. Most of the time, the control panel turns on and the error C-3300 comes right up and wont print the job.
They have to turn off the machines main switch to reset, It warms up and the print job comes out. Sometimes the print job, first thing in the morning will print out like normal. without the control panel turning on unless they need to copy, as it should be. But sometime throughout the day, this scenario will happen, they send the print job and the error comes up C-3300. I know the error is related to the optical unit and don't understand why this error would come up on a print job at all, since the optics are no even used for a print job. I did, however, replace the exposure lamp anyway, but to no avail. I could go on replacing optical unit parts, but since it doesn't make any sense, I was wondering if any of you have had this issue and fixed it, knowing that it only comes up when printing. Whatcha think?

I have some speculation for you.

My guess is that during the warmup of the MFP for printing, the scan lamp intensity is checked, just as a routine measure. As you probably already know, the components that are involved are: 1) Repl lamp & inverter PWB, 2) Repl ISM PWB, 3) Repl ISC PWB, 4) Repl CCD PWB.

I list the lamp and inverter together since it is good policy to replace the two together as a set =^..^=

I was thinking the same thing. The funny thing is, the lamp doesn't even come on, to do the print job. I did check this on another machine and that machine also doesn't do the wake up thing of the lamp coming on and the control panel coming on. It just goes through the heater warm up and the laser unit cleaning, fans come on, then it prints out the job. Then fans go off again until next print job is sent. Sometimes, at least once a day, the control panel will come on and display a C3300 error code. Weird. But normally the control panel doesn't wake up, and/or the exposure lamp doesn't light up, for a print job.

This sounds like one of those things that is controlled by firmware. Are your machines at the same firmware level? =^..^=

Right answer, wrong question. Are the two machines at the same firmware level? =^..^=

Yes they are.

We had this problem a couple of years ago on a heavily used machine and it drove us crazy for a while. If my memory serves me correctly, what solved the problem was re-formatting the HDD with the door open. I could be wrong and I searched our service database and could not find the resolution for this code. What triggers my memory nodes is that we had replaced multiple parts as you have to no avail, did FW updates, etc. We had also reformatted the HDD several times and then remembered the bulletin about reformatting with the door open. As I said if my memory serves me correctly this is what solved it.

I had a similar problem on a Kyocera 5050 just recently. It was driving me crazy. I replaced the lamp inverter pcb, engine pcb, updated fw,changed adf. It ended up being the fan that sits just above the engine pcb (near the top of the machine) was unplugged. The fan wire was kind of hidden among some of the other wires. Good luck
