The printer recognizes the ADF but not originals in the ADF. If I open the cover, the displays tells me it's open but if I put an original in the ADF, id doesn't see it and makes a copy off the glass. If anyone has a service manual, that would be great. The covers on this are a puzzle. I'd like to get inside that ADF if possible. Thinking maybe the sensor is knocked out of place. The flag is in place and moves smoothly.

I think you are on right track. This sensor (Document detection sensor),
can be checked in maintenance mode via code 32 before starting disassembling.

Thanks for your help tsbservice. The problem is the adf original sensor. I switched it with the adf delivery sensor. It recognizes and feeds the original but goes into an adf jam. Unfortunately, the sensor is not listed in the parts book as an orderable part which kind of renders this adf useless.
Got my hands on a scrapped 9970 feeder that had the same sensors. Period got the machine up and running again.
