I find it absolutely bizzarre.

What I don't understand is the reasoning behind it.
All of the traditional PM parts are those that wear/tear through friction (Rollers/Fuser/Belt)
How does an oscilating light and some mirrors ever wear?
I found dust in them depending on environment (keep in mind laser unit isn't sealed) mainly on poly mirror. Then when you replace the main board it's required to enter numbers from laser unit probably machine shifts some voltages depending on parts life, etc. What's the reason behind your interest, do you have to calculate PPC and cost of lasers breaks your deal or something else? I know they build the machine around laser sometimes but in the reality it's not such big problem for us.
