    Yes, peter you can do that.Mine will save lots of time to get the correct diameter and I also put on the spacer an inlet for the drum and a grove for the body.This is version 3 to get it perfect.Personally, I think a cable tie will cause more damage to the machine if it gets worn.If your diameter on the busing isn't 100% you will get noise or more friction to the drum.
    But here is nothing wrong with your idea we all have diffrent standards of doing our work'
