DIAG 2-digit display codes (any other error codes are for factory use only)
FF • imagePASS is not booting. Check external and internal connections and cables.
E1 • DIMM is missing. Install or reseat the DIMM in DDR DIMM2.
00 • imagePASS has booted and is functioning correctly.= No action required.
never seen a "AA" code on this unit
open box> check all interior connections & boards & re-seat memory
disconnect power> then also u may try and removing the A2 internal battery > wait a few minutes put back battery > re-start

They generate A7s and A8s but never had an AA. I personally would re-install the system software and all patches

What does LED code "AA" mean on imagePASS A2 controller?
Possible hardware failure
Aug 26, 2019•FAQ
Model/Module
Fiery Controller
Affects Version
Canon imagePASS A2 controller
Question
ImagePASS A2 controller will not boot.
The 7-segment LED display on the side of the chassis shows code "AA"
Answer:
LED code "AA" means that the motherboard is trying to complete power-on self test (POST). If the system stays on "AA" permanently, the likely cause could be a hardware failure of the motherboard.
Before attempting to reinstall system software or replacing any hardware;
- Disconnect power and, reseat all connectors and components. Check if the Fiery controller will boot to Idle after this step.
- If the problem persists - it may be worth trying to force a CMOS clear by disconnecting the power cable and copier IF cable, then remove the CMOS battery (the small coin-sized battery) for 5 minutes. Then return the battery to its original position and re-connect the copier IF cable and the power cable. Try booting the Fiery controller again.
-If the problem still remains after the above steps, it is likely that some hardware component has failed - possibly - motherboard, CPU or memory (but most likely - motherboard).

A2 Guide link above
Before Attaching the imagePASS-A2 to an imageRUNNER ADVANCE, in Service Mode be sure to change the IMG-CONT value by navigating to the
value below:
COPIER OPTION INT-FACE IMG-CONT = ‘3’
Connection of Crossover Cable and Network Cable
When connecting a crossover cable and a network cable to the imagePASS-A2, please be sure to connect the cables in the correct positions.
For detailed installation, please refer to the imagePASS-A2 Installation and Service Guide.
When installed correctly, the Network or wall side connects to number “2” below and the imageRUNNER ADVANCE connects to number “3” with the provided crossover cable.

When Reinstalling the System Software
When reinstalling System Software, the imagePASS-A2 will need to be rebooted. If the device is not rebooted correctly, it is possible that the system could become locked with the “Processing” status when printing a
configuration page, a test page or initial job right after the re-installation.
Additional Memory for iR-ADV
Additional Memory Type B (512MB) is required in iR-ADV prior to connecting the imagePASS-A2.
Installation of Interface Board for OPEN I/F
An updated OPEN cable connection is added to the connecting engine along with the conventional Ethernet cable connection.
In order to implement the OPEN I/F cable connection, interface board is supplied with the controller. When the controller is installed, you need to install interface board on the engine. For details,
please refer to the imagePASS-A2 Installation and Service guide.
Replacing Motherboard
Replacement motherboards do not include the CPU and DIMM. Please be sure to remove these parts from the
old motherboard and attach them to the new board when replacing.
This controller has a copy protection system with Key Chip on the motherboard. When changing the motherboard, please remove the security chip
from the motherboard and install it on the new motherboard. If no security chip is installed, the controller will
not power on correctly and all customer-purchased software options will be lost.
Patch File Installation
Patch files can be downloaded to imagePASS-A2 via Direct queue using Command Workstation.
SYSTEM SOFTWARE INSTALLATION:
System Software can be installed on the imagePASS-A2 by two methods. The first method is a network installation procedure through an Ethernet port.
The second method involves the use of a USB Flash Drive with the USB Flash Tool.
Installing System Software through an Ethernet Port
You will need the following items:
Ethernet crossover cable (4-pair/8-wire, short-length)
Computer with Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7/8/10
o A DVD drive, built-in or attached
o Support for 100BaseTX or 1000BaseT
o 1.5GB minimum memory capacity
System Software DVD
The System Software DVD contains the System Software and the Fiery System Software Installer.
Please refer to imagePASS-A2 Installation and Service Guide (ISGv10imagePASS-A2.pdf) Page 53 for additional information.
Installing System Software Using a USB Flash Drive
You will need the following items:
USB 2.0 flash drive [not provided] with 5GB capacity (minimum).
If the drive has a write protection feature, make sure that write-protection is switched off. Not all USB
2.0 flash drives have been validated for use with the imagePASS. If the one you are using does not
work, try another brand.
Any PC [not provided] with:
o Windows 7, Windows Vista (32- or 64-bit), or Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later
o DVD media drive, built-in or attached
o Support for USB 2.0
System Software DVD
USB Prep Tool CD v1.3 or later
Please refer to imagePASS-A2 Installation and Service Guide (ISGv10imagePASS-A2.pdf) Page 56 for
additional information.
