    Angry Cannot connect to my IR2200 with SST

    Hi,

    I have a canon IR2200 that was still running fine until the HDD crashed.
    I replaced it and try now to download the firmware with SST 4.23E.
    I activate my IR2200 in download mode.
    I tried on both a win7 and XP computer using a centronics to usb adapter: my IR2200 does not show up in SST connection menu.
    Same problem on XP with an IEEE1284 Parallel cable!.

    Any hint?

    Use a crossover cable for connection,
    Then first format the HDD,
    HDD must be same / orig Canon / find used on search.

    IR-2200 works fine with low SST version.
    I tried with higher version too but failed.
    I tried it with a lower version and it worked well.

    USB-Parallel Cable
    Starting with SST v1.81 the USB-Parallel Cable (FY9-4154-000) may be used.
    This is the ONLY USB-Parallel Cable that will function with the Service Support Tool.

    Old Update

    USB-Parallel cable (FY9-4368-000) supports Windows Vista / Windows 7 with Service Support Tool (SST) v4.22 or above.

    USB-Parallel cable (FY9-4154-000)does not support Windows Vista regardless of the version of SST.

    Additionally, the driver for the cable MUST be installed for the cable to function.
    Refer to the instructions in the USB-Parallel Cable Driver Installation item located in the Installation/Setup
    Instructions section for driver installation information.
    The USB-Parallel Cable is supported on Windows 98/2000/XP ONLY. Since High-Speed parallel (for those devices that support it) is unavailable in Windows
    2000/XP due to OS reasons, this cable will allow connection to parallel devices at speeds on the order of High-Speed parallel.

    It will also be useful for those laptops where parallel ports have not been included by the manufacturer.
    This cable can be used with any device that supports flashing over a standard Parallel port. For these devices, and if
    the cable and driver are properly installed, a new option will be seen in the Interface selection - USB-Adp. Utilize this selection when using the USB-Parallel Cable.

    Run Time Error indicates a software problem with the Service Support Tool. This is not a connection problem between the PC and the copier. The most likely cause of this problem is that the Service Support Tool was installed on top of another version or instance of the Service Support Tool. Only one instance of the Service Support Tool should be present on a given PC. The proper method for upgrading an old version of the Service Support Tool to a newer version of the Service Support Tool is to uninstall the old version of the Service Support Tool, reboot the PC, and then install the new version of the Service Support Tool.
    If the Service Support Tool is giving Run Time Error messages and then crashing, perform the following steps:
    1. Uninstall all instances of the Service Support Tool from the PC.
    2. Reboot the PC.
    3. Reinstall the latest version of the Service Support Tool.

    Ha-ha going to be doing this same thing with IR2200 some time in Jan. I must be crazy but it's for a good customer's warehouse mach. Going to try and avoid loading the software by bringing a HDD & Boot rom from another IR2200.

    If that don't work I'm bringing a mini tower with XP & parallel port. Only have 45.01 software and using a regular parallel cable. Hopefully that will work. This same software worked on a IR2200 around 10 yrs ago last time I used SST tool.

    I hang on to an on laptop purely for this one job I has a lot the the ir2200 series out there.

    I only every used a regular parallel cable as some only have the C boot rom & no LAN kit installed!

    I can't believe people are still holding on to a 19-20 year old copier. I know the older Canon units were built like tanks, but at some point they REALLY should be concerned about parts availability.

    We had several customers a few years back that the only way we could get them off of their iR220/iR330 machines was the fact that the fuser units were no longer available. Same thing with the C3200/C3220 machines. Fuser parts became NLA, and we could no longer service their machines.

    I agree but these old 2200’s are/were such reliable model & easy to repair.

    Also the customers love them quick warm up & first copy out time etc.
