Question Canon C5240 Black screen with energy save button illuminated

    Hey guys and gals,
As you can tell from my name, I'm not a Canon tech, but years ago worked on them. I have a friend with a C5240 that (he says) was working fine. He hit the energy saver button one night after work and that's all she wrote. Both he and I have tried several things to get the copy/lcd screen back to no avail. I was thinking maybe firmware would revive it, but that's just a guess. Has anybody ever seen this? It runs thru POR and acts like it comes up to ready to copy, but who knows......
I've touched every button on it and none seem to be "stuck down"
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I live in the KM world now.

Even if the LVPS or HVPS were bad, blacking out the screen, shouldn't I still be able to "wing it" without seeing the screen with the hard keys and at least sneak a copy out of it? maybe via ADF?

how the fuck can you if the screen doesn't work?

are you aware of what those two boards do?

if a channel/leg of the power supplies are DEAD how can you get it to work?

get out your manual and go thru the "power theory" chapter.

WOW! What an IDIOT! I'm sure you are aware that the HARD keys operate independently of the touch screen!
Please don't reply to something you know nothing about! Especially to me! I thought some of the customers I had were Idiots, but you take the cake!
If anyone else would like to reply with some HELPFUL information other than cursing, please do so.

well IF there is a power problem going to the screen and keys.. you won't always get key press results...

you clearly stated you are a minolta man ( i was also a minolta man)

along with Minolta - Canon - HP - Xerox - Samsux - Epson - Ricoh - Brother - Oki - FP - Pitney - Sencom and others.. 31+yrs in industry .. I was also Military Certified on soldering/testing various PCB's thru/surface when I worked for Raytheon. I have seen where keys fail.and vice versa Screen works.. just like with Ricohs canon had issues with keys/screen

you have to USE wiring scheme/PTP to find the voltages of that harness. even a SLIGHT drop in signal can cause issues.

a building power fail can ALSO cause ALL brands major problems

but no fear.. You won't hear from me again..

Were you able to get this resolved? I had this issue on a C5235 and a C5240 and ended up replacing the Main #2 to resolve the issue. Unfortunately on the C5235, the problem returned after only 5 months. We did use a Used Main #2 to save the customer money but still can't believe it went bad with the same issue.
