C5500 / 4500 hard drives

We purchase some off lease equipment at times for resale. I’ve heard that the C5500 series and, well, many of those generation have a hard drive married to the copier. That you can’t swap from one to the other. Of course, machines come in with drives removed and that poses a problem. So if you need to test, you have to have a new hard drive? And when you install a drive, does it become married to that machine? This may not be exact but I’m curious how to go about that. Anybody have specific info on hard drive swapping on these? Thanks!

from my experience you cant pre-load these hard drive on a machine and swap it to another machine it wont work. if you swap hard drive you have to format and re-load the firmware to make it work
