Help with IR 2230 hard drive/firmware

I recently got error code 602 on my IR2230 that the hard drive has failed, and the hard drive is making the click of death sound.

Is this machine still relevant enough that a tech would repair it?
Can somebody please point me in the right direction to purchase the SST and firmware so that i can fix it myself if need be?

I would hate to give up on a good machine just bc the hard drive went bad.

    Any help is appreciated,

    Thanks,
    John

Only credited Canon engineers have access to that information but if your hdd if faulty best to try to buy a used on from ebay with the software already loaded if can't use any hdd has to be one from Canon

    Thanks for your the reply..

I looked on ebay for a loaded hdd, but couldn't find any for model 2230.

Ill contact a local copier tech and hopefully he'll have some solution.

    Hey super thanks, kuby!!

I found both drives on Hytec, but both were for $129.00 which is still great.

You wouldn't have a direct link for the $89.00 by chance?

Again thanks, I really appreciate the help.

Re: Help with IR 2230 hard drive/firmware

I know it's an old thread, but in case someone with experience in those antique iR2230s sees it, the next question would be about the hard drives from Hytec. Those are new replacement HDDs that do not have any Canon formatting or firmware installed, so you would still need to get the Tool and firmware to upload on the HDD for the machine to work, correct?

For practical purposes, how can that be done if one had a windows XP machine with a crossover cable available? In my case, the machine is stuck in "Download Mode" after I used the 1 and 9 key combination on start. If restarted, the machine gives out the e602-0001 code.

Considering how old the machine is, are there still any firmware/HDD files or any other resources available online to help revive this machine? There haven't been any used unwiped HDDs on Ebay for quite some time. The local techs say they don't service these old models anymore, but it would be a shame to send it to a landfill.

The am pretty sure the drives from Hytec already have the firmware loaded on them. All you need to do is install them.

Ok, thank you, Kuby. I took a leap of faith and ordered the HDD (FK2-4907-000) from Hytec. Will report back after it arrives...
