Attached is a photo of a modular jack pcb off of an IR1025if copier.

There is a component I tried to find out what it is on the upper right side of the photo.

I have replaced a few of these boards over the years due to failures.

Not looking to buy a component and fix them. The PCB is cheap and still available. I just can't find

any information on that part. It is labeled as AR2 and that does not come up on google searchs.

Any Ideas?

It's an electronically controlled relay is my best guess.

Its a surge absorber.
Helps for high voltages above 3.5KV. For lightning.

Can be compared to a MOV(metal oxide varistor) I think. a MOV has a high resistance in normal conditions and will reduce its resistance as the voltage goes over line voltage.
Almost the opposite of a fuse. Will close a path between live and neutral/earth if the voltage gets to high.
That closed path will cause a fuse on the live side to blow. After the surge the fuse can be replaced and all should be well.

Not entirely sure how the glass tube does its thing as the circuit its in is a 48V low current circuit.
