Canon iR2018 coffee spilled on keyboard, machine unresponsive.

they called to report a unresponsive machine, I checked and found that the display indicated "turn off duplex" (this model doesn't have duplex option installed), after turning it off/on the display came to "ready" but copy button didn't respond. So I opened the keyboard to check microswitches and I found dark sticky spots around duplex button, customer accepted then that they had a little "accident" with the remnants of a cup of coffee.

I used the multimeter to check conductivity of all buttons and all seemed OK. I proceded to change "duplex" microswith with a new micro anyway.

But machine remains the same. I tried to access service mode to activate "reset all" function but keyboard is not accepting ANY key at this point (no numbers change, no up and down arrows etc. not a single button working, liquid didn't reach ALL keys, only duplex function key).

I am wondering which board should I order next, the keyboard itself or the Image processor board? (the keboard is connected to it), since it's a matter of $$ I'd like to hear previous experiences from you guys.

I would start from where it broke down. Replace with a working "keyboard" first. If it works, there might be no need replacing any other board.

mga is right, the only exception would be if you have donor machine to use parts from.
Funny story: recently had to replace all drum units and TBU on bizhub C224e, perfectly working...before someone spew a cup of cappuccino all over it. Amazingly it worked a few days before sugar, milk and toner glue in gummy substance.

    Don'y waste your time.

If this was my customer i'd charge them for a new control panel for a start & make them aware it may have taken out the controller.

Even if you do get it to work, there’s no guarantee it will continue to.

You will likely get visited by a herd of nasty little gremlins some time in the future, at totally unpredictable times.

Years ago, a customer had a Canon fax machine that got pretty well drenched by their sprinkler system one night.

We changed the main controller...a week later the power supply...two weeks later the modem board...and so on.

It was well under the deductible amount of their insurance, so it was all “out of pocket”.

They ended up trashing it and we gave them a huge credit towards a new machine.
