Canon IR2270 - first copy jamming

    Hi All,

Let me first say I am a novice, so I appreciate your help and patience up front.

I have a Canon Image Runner 2270 that my service company will no longer service. I paid for the maintenance package with them for many years and never had any issues with the machine. I routinely called them to have them come clean it, just so I was getting something for my subscription. Finally about 2 years ago they sent me a letter saying they would not service my machine any longer due to its age. The point is, I dont have another company locally that I can call for service now that I have an issue. Again, thanks in advance for the help!

I have a paper jamming, but only on the first page so once I remove the jammed page I can print as many copies as I want without issue. Only very seldom does it jam twice in a row. However, if I wait 10 minutes, then try to print again, it jams again. I have been putting up with it for some time as I dont use it frequently. I am getting tired of the jam routine though and fear that I may damage other parts by continuing and also fear that opening the side door so many times to remove the paper may also cause damage.

The jam is located in the right panel and I have to pull down the paper feeding mechanism to clear the paper and error. I dont ever run duplex so I am not sure if it does it with duplex or not.

Can anyone help? I attached a photo to show where it gets jammed.

    Thanks again!!

It could be as simple as worn down rollers and as complicated as a clutch. Is it only one tray? Try using the other tray and see if that jams

    Thanks for the reply Brian8506!

I hadnt tried that before, but I just did and the error came up but no physical paper jammed. Let me know what you think.
    Thanks again!

Have the updated parts to the lower door and paper guide been fitted ?

It sounds like it may be the rollers but it’s very difficult to know without knowing what the jam code is. It sounds like you need someone that knows how to access all this information because jamming can be caused by a multitude of things

Can you explain how to access the jam code? I tried going through the settings in the log and wasnt able to identify anything that would resemble a jam code. Maybe #099.

I wish I did have someone, but no one in my area that I could find. Only company I found wanted to charge $300 trip charge and Hourly on top of that. I would consider buying a newer or used one prior to that and I feel this is likely an easy fix.

    Thanks again for the replies!!

Looking at your picture of where the paper has jammed its not worn feed rollers. If the rollers were worn the paper wouldn't make it that far.

Just above where the paper has stopped is a sensor arm (registration sensor) Canon used tiny little sound dampening pads, now at this old age the pads go sticky & this causes this sensor arm to not return 'home'

Push this up firmly see if it immediately drops back down, any slight delay will cause a jam.

This issue usually only happens first copy/print in the morning.

There was also a modified lower right door on this model. Behind this door are two black or grey hard rubber rollers on a shaft, give them a good clean this may also help.

Re: Canon IR2270 - first copy jamming

If it does it first copy, its probably because the rubber dampers on the right door for the diverters are sticking, same with damper for registration sensor flag. Also, the registration actuator wears down, and if paper curls, it jams. Probably sticky dampers, though. Jam code?

My mistake. The second tray may be a roller problem because it’s not getting out of the tree at all but I believe he is the end user and probably is not going to know where all these little sticky pads are
