Exclamation Can't upgrade IR2200 with SST

Hello guys and girls, I've read many many post, I got so many new info that I'm all confused now!!

Situation: I thought I had a deal, bought a Canon IR2200 for 50$ locally to use for my small business, only to discover that I needed a Network card and ROM to be able to print by the network.. So I went on and bought the Net card + Rom over the internet and I had a CD with it with SST 3.22E and System software for iR2200N (the Rui and the System folders).

I bought a USB to CN36 cable (ieee-1284 male connector), installed a virtual machine with Windows XP to make sure everything would be good.. I registered the system file and IR2200N firmware is now on the computer/SST.

Annnnnd it doesn't work. I can't connect to the printer in download mode, tried a couple thing and figured as it's not a Canon' HWK cable that the program won't accept it.. (Any help for using this generic cable would be appreciated if doable)

I thought I'd have a chance by using the Computer to USB fonction to export the firmware, but it doesn't work as I don't see the IR2200 option in the series drop down menu, there's only iRC6870 and iRC6870/iRC2570 options. (I tried to close down the program of course and deleting and registering the firmware over again). I formatted a usb drive to Fat32 and even tried to use the iRC6870 serie, but no file are put in the usb folder, only a directory is created.. Doesn't matter as it wouldn't be the good files anyway, I guess it's because I don't have the firmware for those models maybe?

I read in another post a couple days ago that I could still use the network card to update the firmware.. but I guess I would need to have an already 'N' mode firmware installed to be able to install the firmware with a crossover cable?

I'm at lost and I don't want to send this old monster to the landfill while I (think I) have all the material necessary to make it work..

I called the only local Canon rep in Quebec, Canada and they told me the unit is to old and not supported..

Hope someone can shed some light on my options here, I don't have any knowledge about printers to share here unfortunately, but if anyone need help with Computers, 3D Printing, general business setup in Canada and Quebec, I'll be pleased to help!

    Jonathan

You are correct the USB to parallel cables do seem to cause issues.

If you have access to an old XP laptop that was a parallel port you can use that.

Or you can use a LAN crossover cable, its been a while since I did this but turn the machine on holding down keys 2 & 8 this will boot the machine up in download mode then set your laptop to the same range e.g 172.16.1.10

This model doesn't support firmware updating via USB pen drive.

Thanks a bunch!! Will make a crossover cable and try that.. I don't have an old enough laptop to use with a parallel cable..

Will comment back on how it went!

    Thanks again!
