    Starting up IP message

Working with a Canon 5045. Get this, I get a constant starting up IP message and we can’t print I have:

    -checked the network
    -updated firmware
    -checked print drivers
    - I CAN PING THE MACHINE
    -replaced the main controller (twice)
    -replaced riser board
-wiped all data and formatted Hard drive

ARE YOU a tech or enduser?

what do you mean " check network "? this sounds like a setting isn't quite right

if you can ping why replace all those expensive boards?

please post settings for the network.

you are 'shot gunning' the repair without knowing the CAUSE of the problem. rookie move.

    do you have the manual?

    what is the SPECIFIC MESSAGE?

    Hey Phil,
    15 year canon tech here,

sorry, my fault, I’ll go slower. Called to end users office. They are saying they can’t print. And there is a message at the bottom of the screen saying “starting up network IP”. I first check for link light at the port (and we are good there). I then check to see if I can ping the machines IP (I get reply). I then attempt to print (nothing). I check the end users print spool and reset (nothing changes). I update machine firmware. I update users print driver and attempt to direct print to the machine (no luck) I hook my own laptop directly to machine (Now I can print). Due to the message of the machine I swap the main controller which houses the network card. Message goes away. I wash my hands, everything is good and they are printing.... 1 month later. A repeat of the same issue exactly. I replace main controller again! Problem remains. I replace riser board of main controller. I can still ping machine I can ping from the machine. But print jobs don’t go through.

user has another canon printer in office and has no issue printing to that one.... thoughts

well the FACT that your lapper prints to indicates a BAD CABLE ...

you could print to it but swapped boards? WHY

I always start with the simple shit that a dumbass user can screw up .. THE CABLE.. or NETWORK

is it set for DHCP or STATIC (preferred) with it set to DHCP IF the machine is turned off ( or sometimes long sleep mode ) DHCP can reassign that IP addy.

reason I asked about the 'tech' thing your profile doesn't state ANY tech experience ... really it says NOTHING about you. WHY NOT?

this info helps us determine whether to treat you like an end user or someone with a working knowledge of machines.

frankly IMHO you blew it by not looking at cable/network before you started swapping boards around.

I would have razed any of my techs for doing that... KISS principle is ALWAYS a good place to start

    hi,

did you ping it with the -t command and then take out the cable to see if it stops pinging? Maybe the IP address is pinging but to another device on the network?

    process of elimination:
-I used the cable from the port to hook to my “lappy”
-port was sending link light with data light blinking so that rules out it being cable
-the fact I ‘could’ print from laptop but not from network indicates to me a failure in the logic of the main controller not communicating network info properly. Besides I have a hundred main controllers in storage at no cost to me.
-notice after replacing main controller they could then print and the message went away (though temporary)
    -it’s definitely set to static
    -we tried multiple different ports
-if I can print to a canon 5045 that is in just the other room I have no reason to think network itself is the issue

-I just started this account haven’t ever needed to ask a forum question before but everyone I know is stumped...

I didn’t try that but I did change to a known available port and pinged that as well. I’ll give that a go though

Yeah, you could have an IP conflict with 2 devices on the same IP address. I'd scan the network and look at all the IP addresses being used.

Process of elimination is when you connect your laptop directly to machine with their own cable if it works - machine side is good. It's that simple no matter how many main boards you have handy or machine next room is working etc. Going alternative ways is basically chasing your tail imho.

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.

I don't reply to private messages from end users.
