become canon tech or not?

so i am currently considering switching jobs. i am a tech with just over 10 yrs experience certified to work on 4 different major brands. what i am wondering is how difficult are canons to work on? is it simply pull the old part out and install the new one? or is it like some brands they want you to rebuild the old unit with new parts? the debate is partly due to the fact that this place i am considering has only been in business for as long as i have been a tech.. plus this would require a move to a new town. any input i am grateful for. thanks

No rebuilding of parts but Canon terms are a little different like all brands. Small learning curve but all there operation panels are the same so learn one you learn them all. Good machines good color. We picked up Canon from the IT side again a small learning curve.

If you mastered 4 other brands you should be fine.

Having worked on 10 brands or more, I'd say that's the least of your concerns. Make sure this new company is a place you want to work (more than the place you are at). You'll adapt to whatever equipment is put in front of you. =^..^=

Canon is one of the brands I am trained on.

They are a good to work on, the later models are very reliable.

Unlike say KM & Ricoh you rebuild the fuser, but you replace the drum & dev units.

Service mode is very engineer friendly, for example the jam history will show you a picture of the location the jam occurred & the error code page will give you a detailed reason for the error to point you in the right direction, this is handy as you don't always need to refer to the service manual.

The only thing I don't like is the machine boots up off the HDD, a bit like a PC, so if the HDD fails you need to reload the software.

I've found Ricoh and Xerox harder to work on than Canon.

the move is what I would object to. I am very happy with where I'm living , wouldn't want to give that up for neither love nor money.

I find in the uk Canon tech support is no way as good as ricoh.

But if you are trained on 4 manufacturers already you shouldn't have any problems.

I would consider another line of work if i had to transfer from Canon to another brand. Esp if not a market leader.

With your experience it should take you less then a year to be an expert on Canon.
