    Export settings to text file

    Hello All,

I'm trying to track down why one copier I service is having issues printing large PDF files, and it will sometimes start spooling the file sent by the computer and then quit, with the print job just vanishing, and on other copy machines of the same and similar model, that issue does not exist.

I wanted to try exporting all the settings on the copier with the issue, and another copier, and see where the differences are, to help finding what (if any) setting may be different and may be causing this issue.

Please let me know if anyone has any advice on how to do this.

    Thanks!
    Bret

First of all, it’s nice to know which model you have.

I would tackle the problem as follows:

    1. Clear the printer to factory settings.
    2. Update to the latest version.
    3. Make import / export of all settings from a working device.

If it doesn't get better, try with the new HDD.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it

If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself

What model are you having issues with?

How large are the pdf files?

    Try updating the firmware first.

Thanks for the ideas. Seems like all good advice.

The model is an ImageRunner Advance DX 5760 with an inner finisher.

We're printing using the Canon Generic Plus PS3 driver, printing from Windows 10 64 bit over a local area network.

What I found so far was that there was a setting "on", called Composite Overprint. Turning this setting off, took the problematic print job (PDF file) from taking 10-15 minutes to start printing, down to 4-5 minutes to start printing. That's a good improvement.

I'm still looking for the reason this takes so many minutes to start printing. While it is waiting to print, the screen says "Waiting to print..." It then starts printing.

The advice given is obviously good advice. I can't do that at this time due to lack of access to the machine. And it is being used pretty much all the time.

As soon as I can, I will clear the settings, do the firmware upgrade, etc.

    Thanks.

(If any other ideas, specifically things that can be done remotely, I'm open to them.)

    Thanks.

    IR ADV DX C5760

Size is 35MB but relatively complex vector graphics in the PDF, and scanned images.

Yes, firmware update is the right handling. I'm not able to do that at this time, as detailed in my reply to the other response.

    I appreciate the advice.

What port is it printing to, IP address or WSD. Very common problem when you let Windows install a printer on the WSD port and/or a Microsoft written driver.

35MB should not be a problem as long as spooling speed does not cause the IR to timeout and dump the job. I have seen HDD errors cause this but would also generate an error code. You can check the graphics setting inmost PCL drivers to see if set to vector or raster. I have seen the wrong setting cause an A3 page to take 30 minutes to print vs 30 seconds with the correct setting. One other thing to try is to preview the job and then print from the preview display. This wil flatten the image, i.e. remove any extraneous information that is not going to end up on the paper anyway.

If you testing two printers from one computer and one printer don't have problems you can skip driver and port issues.Just copy all settings from working printer and make some tests.Replace local network cable to be sure.
Sometimes hdd have bad sectors and don't throw error code.

The port is an IP address directly, no WSD.

I'm using a PS driver, not PCL, due to color accuracy being better with the PS driver.

What I found, through much searching through settings on the copier and printer driver, is that there is a setting on the Canon Generic Plus PS3 driver, in the Device settings tab, called "PS Output from application", if I set that to Off, it handles the print speed problem that I was trying to track down the cause of. That's why I was trying to export the settings, was to figure out why a page takes 1 minute to print when it just had a watermark on the PDF. Turns out that this driver/copier isn't handling the transparencies well, and that setting seems to handle it.
