would C5051 be able to support smb2 scanning if it is upgraded to the latest firmware? or it is only bound to smb1?

You need special firmware V83.68.01. This is not general release firmware and any attempt to upgrade this firmware will remove this functionality.

I also need SMB2 support for a client that has several IR-C5240A's. We are not a Canon dealer, is there somewhere they could download the specialty firmware?

simply on the pc in the search bar windows features
    enter
    open folder
then under (support for SMB 1.0 / cifs file sharing
    insert all hooks

    So easy? Seriously?

Notably, SMB1 was used as an attack channel for both the WannaCry and NotPetya mass ransomware attacks in 2017.
