    IRADV C5051 Color Spots

These spots suddenly appeared on an IRADV C5051 with over a million copies on it.
All 3 Colors only and not black. I have been working on these machines since they were
first out and have never seen this before. I stopped a copy job half way on an 11 x 17 page
and the spots appear on the color drums and the IT belt. Checked the manual concerning
image faults and nothing like this is shown.

I have done the simple thinks like unplugging the copier and restarting.

I am going to search through some tech pubs I still have on these old machines.

I had went back to the machine to change the magenta drum unit due to streaks and discovered afterward that it was making the spots. Thought maybe it was something I had done but then found out it was a different issue that had occurred before I had returned.

I realize it could possibly be developers but for all 3 to do that at the same time would be very odd.

Any Hints besides recommending the customer upgrade?

If the drum(s) aren't ' burned or etched ' more than likely there is glue on the drums and belt from running cheap labels.
You can clean it off with a soft cloth and IPA.
Just don't scrub hard or use a scrubby pad.

replace the toner filter behind the machine will reduce this issue. there was a tech article about this issue.

    Just some Ideas.

You stated you stopped the paper and saw the spots on the drum, so im guessing this was before the cleaning of the drum. You said you swapped a Drum and it stayed the same for one color also, so you are basically saying its not the drums.

You should pull the developer and spin it and look for spots or substitute it. This is also assuming your ITB cleans itself off properly and the internal transfer rollers are good.

Is this something that has been down a long time or in a bad environment? Did they buy the toner fresh from you, and it was not sitting around at all a long time or in the weather.

But for you this should end up being pretty easy due to you worked on these since they came out.

Without the info you gave us i could have guessed bad recovery mylars in the drum, now check the developers for dropping toner.

I don't work on this just giving you some ideas to follow. 1 Million is high for a color copier maybe you can upgrade in the near future, GL.

Remember your ITB cleaning unit also make sure its not clogged or waste toner full.

looking at the photo supplied of the spots, the spots are repetitive, same patten every 3-4 inches or so?
