And just to cover all the bases here, you mentioned that they put a network card in this copier, did they also place an N-boot rom in the copier as well?? It has been so long since I put that option into one of those copiers. I believe that the original install package had the boot rom as well as the nic in the box. Without the n boot rom this will not work correctly.

Past that point, are you sure you are trying to load the N version of the boot rom in SST, and not the copier version?

Do you have an old Configuration print out from this machine? If so what is the boot Rom Version. If it was orginally a networked printer it is possible the boot rom was flached back to a copier only version. If this is the case you will need a need a new network boot Rom.
Looks Like mrfixit51 coved this already.

    Model Service Support Tool Display
    imageRUNNER 5000 (copier version) iR5000d
    imageRUNNER 5000N (networked version) iR5000dN
    imageRUNNER 6000 (copier version) iR5000d
    imageRUNNER 6000N (networked version) iR5000dN

Model Counter Check Display on Control Panel LCD
    imageRUNNER 5000 (copier version) iR5000d
    imageRUNNER 5000N (networked version) iR5000dN
    imageRUNNER 6000 (copier version) iR5000d(iR5000d)
    imageRUNNER 6000N (networked version) iR5000dN(iR5000dN)

Service Support Tool uses only iR5000d and iR5000dN as the model names to register the software/firmware.
iR6000 and iR6000N will not be displayed in the Service Support Tool.

My guess would be, Replace the hard drive and go from their. The drive is very little cost and firm ware update may have caused it to crash. Hope this helps.
