100 + print drivers to create and configure

Hi all,

We have a customer who wants to create over 100 print drivers with different configs on each, does anyone know a quick way of duplicating a print driver on a server? or if they'll actually be any performance issues to the end user when they goto select a driver from the drop down list ?

I'm not following what you're trying to accomplish by installing 100 print drivers with different configurations? What is it that you're trying to accomplish exactly?

You create different printers with default setting ie output from tray 4 etc...

Driver is already installed you just add printer

You can also setup custom profile within the print driver and name them within the driver

That's what I would do.

Print driver presets within the print driver. Some manufacturers allow you to save the presets to a folder. Once all presets are saved to the folder, the folder of presets can be copied to a server and pulled down to each pc. Or perhaps the presets can be created on the server and pushed down to individual pc's??? Either way, it sounds like you're dealing with a bit of instantiation overload!!!

Are they trying to give each user their own profiles?
Different paper trays/paper for certain jobs?
Are they storing them on the server?
Are you charging for each profile ( i set up basic drivers on up to 5 PC's for the setup/install charge)

They can make a simple script in C# for duplicating an existing printer.
The 'InsallPrintQueue' class along with modifying the relevant strings would copy an existing queue.

Ricoh has a utility for their pcl6 drivers called Print Driver Packager NX that allows IT to build driver packages for deployment through Group Policy.
