Does WSD have a negative influence on scanning?

Customers IT installed a bh-4050 with WSD for printing . Since I have always rejected that WSD stuff from Microsoft, I have no experience whatever with it. I cannot imagine that WSD has anything to do with scanning, but am a little unsure.......

    Short Answer:
There is nothing about WSD that should negatively impact the scan function.

    Long Answer:
WSD allows your computer to discover various network devices without having to specify their ip address and printer driver. It also provides a basic print driver/protocol.
So no, it will not affect scanning in any way. If you encounter any issues with scanning though, best bet is to check network settings of both mfp and pc.

This is what the WSD installation can do:

Nothing should impact scanning, though advertising the scanner through WSD often works better than just doing TWAIN or other methods. At least with some Ricoh equipment you can get the device to scan in file formats it doesn't natively use, like PNG, if you connect via WSD and a WIA application.

Unless it's not already in use for some integrated scanning features through software pulls scan or apps on phones to scan, it should be fine to disable
