what's your opinion on surge protection

just wanted to get some opinions, what do you think is the best surge protection for copiers? we generally use innovolt and esp. though it's the cheapest model of each that our office purchases. anyone got other recommendations? for a fairly reasonable price. i wish we purchased the better esp's so that you can actually access it to see why it got a hit.

Clearline is a brand I trust. NOt sure if they are limited to ZA.

They are all build with the same basic components so it depends on reputation. Here our OEM suppliers sells us there branded product.

We get blown out surge plugs on occasion that seems to have saved the electronics and the insurance here requires them. With my limited electronic knowledge the switch mode power supplies on these machines include MOV protection and does limit inrush current. Better to replace the surge protector and not the PSU. Same for Ethernet surge protectors vs mainboards.

Nothing stops lightning if the building does not have proper lightning protection.
    Whatever

I'm currently looking for good surge protectors that are available in France (none of those recommended in this forum are).
At the same time I'm looking for a solution for a customer.
They are having major work done on the floor above which regularly cuts off the electricity for 1 sec.
The Epson MFP have HUGE capacitors so they can take it like champs, but no the Sharp one, that start to show some failure.
UPS are out of the question, but I wonder if there's a capacitor solution for this problem, I can't find anything that isn't intended for the medical environment.

ESP and Innovolt with the dongles and the ability to print out the stored data with time of occurrence.
over the years so many times the printout helped convince the machine is affected by events.
mostly false fuser codes and open door jams because the new HVAC unit on the roof causes the power to dip when it comes on and *pop* false code.
or other heavy draw appliance or machine on the same panel.
had more than a few cubicle area installs where users had their own under the desk heaters causing all sorts of fluctuations that showed on the reports i printed from the SP.
now that the machines use 3.3v instead of 5v they are very sensitive and even more susceptible to codes and jams and locking up from small surges.
i think they are a great diagnostic tool.

normally i dont ever suggest a UPS battery backup because the sine wave produced some copiers dont like it but in this case it may be worth trying.

    here ya go! for medical.

i don't recommend battery backup UPS for any copier. why? because when the power goes out. and the battery kicks in. BAM it dies because the copier pulls so much power. so you don't even have time to shut anything down, while on the battery. hence you have defeated the purpose of even having your equipment on a battery. and so many people think they can keep operating because it is on a battery. no, the only thing the battery does is give you a few short minutes to save and shut down your equipment. i used to work on point of sale. and stores thought, hey the power is off. i can keep running, no bueno.

Look for locally for any surge protector plugs that includes Ethernet surge(Network surge) protection.
Or phone a Konica Minolta, Kyocera, or RICOH dealer nearby and ask what they use.
I liked the ones that Toshiba use(d) on there machines.
    Whatever

We're waiting for an answer from Eaton.
I've starting asking around but it seems that no one use surge protector in France, but once again different power grid and voltage etc...
