We offer apprenticeships and train our own techs. Most guys come straight from school - unfortunately the numbers of applications went down to almost zero, as for an example we got none this and last year but we got lucky the years before and over ~5years we "raised" 4 techs so we are covered pretty OK. The upside is that you have a chance to shape your own employees - If you hire somebody with a "history" it's always like playing the lottery. It's hard to meet up the expectation of most applicants nowadays, especially if your own value model is more kind of "old school" while everybody elso is talking about flexible working times, homeoffice, swimming with dolphins......
All in all I think you should try and either recruit straight from school and make yourself better visible there...or find some tech who worked with "related" stuff (like TV/cable) so you can provide some trainings and - probably - patience until he's fit for our business.
