Android Custom Roms

A custom rom can bring a newer version of Android to older devices.

Here is my eight-year-old Samsung s4 mini on its second battery, running an
Android version 7 generations on from what sammy abandoned it with in 2016.



Getting these working can be a frustrating game.

Wanted a new Android TV box and was hesitant of the plethora of no name Chinese boxes on eBay.

The only logical choice seemed to be an Nvidia Shield with a custom Android ROM since I didn't like the stock Shield interface.
There is not much difference performance wise between the 2015 '17 and '19 models, I opted for a 2nd hand 2017 model for about $ 150
I didn't really want a new one since I would be heavily modifying it and the new one does not come with a controller.

The day after I picked it up Android 11 released by the Lineage Team was installed and works very well, there are a few stutters in the video, but it's recording the screen at the same time. Normal operation is buttery smooth.




I have had it a couple of months now and it's already had one system update, ironicly Linus tech tips has just recently uploaded a video about the Chinese TV boxes some of which I was looking at saying they're riddled with malware.

EPSXE emulates PlayStation 1 games perfectly.
