    Laserjet M3035 MFP display black

Display is dark/black. Replaced control panel and was good for about an hour. Is this formatter board? DC controller? Mostly work on copiers, was going to do the customer a "favor" and fix their printer. Need to learn to say no! Any help appreciated.

I hate doing "favors" for customers, it always bites me in the ass!

Off the top of my head I would check the ram memory and make sure they are seated properly.

    Also check & update firmware.

Will it still print jobs from computer or test button?

Thanks for your suggestions, I'm going back on Monday to try that. It was copying and printing fine when I left but she said it kind of froze up when she sent a print job and when she rebooted the printer the screen was black.

Most of the time, when I have HP's with blank displays, it ends up being the formatter.

This printer, like it's base model the LJ P3005 has a problem with the formatter board. When they were manufactured in China they did not use enough flux in the wave soldering operation causing micro cold solder cracks on the board. Baking the board may cause the solder to reflow, but it will fail again over time. Replace the formatter and make sure the replacement you buy DOES NOT have a Toshiba main chip as those are the ones that fail. The newer versions have an ST or a Samsung main chip.
