HP OJ Pro X576 patchy prints

    hello everyone

was called to this machine with half of the cyan not working, performed print head recovery and lost the entire cyan - performed many head cleans and got up to 90% working again, tried another recovery and lost the lot again

cleaned the print head with alcohol, replaced the ink recovery unit, fitted new cyan ink & even used the HP advanced cleaning page

has anyone, ever, anywhere seen a solid solution for what appears to be air in the cyan? lots of customer complaints in the HP forums but no solutions

    please help

Run Tap 24 in support menu to purge air out of printhead. Then run tap 21 for a a quick and better cleaning than the user cleanings on control panel.

    To access the Engineering Menu:
    Home -- Back -- Home -- Home

    Tap Tests.pdf

    Access the Support Menu
Touch the Back button (bottom left corner of display) four times consecutively to open the Support Menu.[MR1]
    Tap “Support” on the screen.
Use up/down arrows and scroll to “Reports Menu”. Tap OK.
Use up/down arrows and scroll to “Print-Mech Button Tap” . Tap OK.
Use up arrow to increase value to “21”. Tap OK.
Tap 21 cleans the print head differently than the standard cleaning procedures. It takes between 2-4 minutes approximately. It does not notify you when it is done but when you hear the fans stop and unit becomes quiet, it is done.

Substitute 24 for 21 to do the air purge tap 24 procedure first

I make tap 24 and tap21 and still in the middle the black is missing. Definitely the printing bar (print head) is dead?

Yeah. Most likely the printhead is bad. The TAP procedures help when there are clogged or dirty nozzles. From your sample, I can see that you have entire black die sets not printing at all. That would be thousands of nozzles not printing. There are no physical obstructions blocking the printing process but it looks like a more electronic command to print to those die issue. Only one last thing I would try if I were there: I would remove back cover and reseat the 3 flat ribbon coming from the printhead to the main PCA. If you are not experienced with board work and connectors I would avoid this. 2 of the connectors are sensitive and could break off. If you are using the unit to scan or fax u may lose that ability if you screw it up.
