PageWide Pro MFP 577DW fax issue

The machine is saying under "jobs", Fax Send Canceling fax... and the circle to the left of the message is rotating and would not send or receive. It would ring busy if you called it.
After unplugging it the fax jobs went away and is now sending & receiving.
The customer said it has done this before a couple months ago.
What could cause its mind to get scrambled ? It was a local number they were faxing to and just a 1 page word document.
I dont have access to a service manual for this model.

Knowing these POS's it sounds like they MIGHT have it on a VOIP system.. they hate that due to voip will drop the line from time to time.. had that happen @ a "Good Will" building in Raleigh.. I showed them EVERYTIME all they needed to do was turn off Voip system.. turn off printer.. reboot VOIP then when ready the printer.. back to working.
Trouble was (not for me) they didn't want to do it and called me to do it.... $95 each call lasting only 15mins ( yes I cleaned and tested the printer completely b4 leaving)

two calls in one day got the new tire I needed for the Buick and beer to drink once I got home!
