L26500 or Latex 260 - can I use a previously used OMAS controller PCA?

Can I use a used OMAS PCA (from another printer) in an L26500 (Latex 260) latex printer? OMAS controller PCA PN CQ869-67061

I am getting system error 50.1:11. Per the manual it could be the OMAS PCA, Sausalito PCA, or the cable between them. The cable seems fine, and I reseated it. The cable between the OMAS PCA and the OMAS sensor seems OK too. But I'm not 100% on that. I reseated it on the OMAS PCA end.

Or I suppose it could be the OMAS sensor (module).

I did get a front panel message many months ago (the last time it was powered on), actually about 3 years ago. I feel bad about that.:

"OMAS not reading. Clean it or disable from RIP." I have cleaned it, but have no RIP; I'm just troubleshooting it presently apart from a computer or network.

From all I have read from others' posts it seems that most likely it is the OMAS controller PCA or the OMAS sensor (module). This post seems to indicate that it could be one or the other:

I am going to try the OMAS controller PCA as it seems to be the cheapest thing to do at first, but want to go cheap and buy a used one. A new one appears to be about $230.

Yes, you can use a used OMAS controller. But I would suspect the OMAS itself. Did you run the OMAS test? What was the result?

My real opinion; just run without it. If you have paper advance issues you can calibrate it manually.

I have only been able to run: Diagnostic Service Tests > Substrate Path > OMAS Module

and during the OMAS Module test it throws up the error 50.1:11.

And during start up it throws up the same error.

It does not come to ready, so I cannot disable the OMAS module in the "Service Menu" as best as I know.

Can I still disable it? If so, how can I disable it?

I was simply thinking of the cheapest possible fix first: probably the OMAS controller PCA. (I can get for about $45 used.)

Then try the OMAS module. I can get used for about $100 or more.

But maybe you are right. Maybe I should go for the OMAS module first.

I would gladly for now run without it, if I could figure out how to disable it.

I thought you could continue past the error on startup. If not, try disconnecting the OMAS cable and see what happens. I'm pretty sure I recall being able to just ignore it. I could be wrong.

And you're right to try the lease expensive part first. Do make sure the OMAS is seated correctly, in case it's been removed and put back in the past. I had one printer where it simply just fell apart, and all I had to do was push it back together up under there. It surprised me it still worked.

Kiran, thanks very much. I will check things, and probe around the OMAS module, and report back.

I agree with you; my hunch is the OMAS module, not the OMAS controller PCA. I will find out. But again the controller PCA is the cheaper. (I found 2 users who replaced the controller and that resolved it. And I found 2 users (I think) who seemed to replace the OMAS module and that resolved it.)

I notice this PN is also for the Latex 210 and 280 and for the T7200. I assume I can use a used part from these models as well.

I did look at the OMAS controller PCA LEDs. The far left (as you face the back) LED did not turn off after about 20 seconds. It remained on.

Perhaps this means that the FW is not loading. Or perhaps this indicates a failed OMAS controller PCA or failed OMAS module or.... I don't really know.

The manual states:

This LED (on the far left) only comes on for the first
20 seconds after the printer is
turned On. When the firmware has
successfully loaded into the
memory the LED will switch OFF.

The other 3 LEDs to the right are ON as they should be.

Of course these all shut off after 50.1:11 comes up and when the printer is beeping due to error 50.1:11.

I disconnected the OMAS cable and it made no change.

I still need to investigate the OMAS module.

I can only find the OMAS controller PCA for about $240 new, so I may go for the OMAS module for about $100 used. To me it is about 50/50 one or the other.

But again, probably the OMAS module.

I went through all my contact with HP regarding OMAS issues. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything useful for you. Did you try swapping the OMAS PCA and Sausalito PCA in their PCI slots?

I'll ask my contact about the LED not turning off. I wonder if possibly the hard drive is failing and the printer isn't loading the firmware completely/correctly. It's just a thought. I've replaced hard drives but never the OMAS or Sausalito PCAs.
