T1100 not cutting between pages on a multi-page print job

A customer 400 miles away has a 44" T1100 that DOES NOT cut between pages when he sends multiple pages. It will cut at the end of all pages. Obviously I'm trying to talk him through this as he is 400 miles away. He is not one to easily take instruction.

So looking for a straightforward LIKELY solution.

I HAVE GIVEN UP ON HIM FOLLOWING ANY OF MY INSTRUCTIONS; I'M GOING TO HAVE TO HEAD TO CHICAGO.

I think it could come down to: a. delete present driver, download latest driver, and reinstall driver, b. syncing up paper in the printer and front panel and in driver software, c. resetting EEROM, d. reinstall firmware (I'm pretty sure it has the latest; but I'm not sure I can do this--I think I have done it on more recent models.), etc. a. is basically noted at the end.

I'm thinking if it "FORM FEEDS & CUTS" then it is software related.

Besides these I have told him the following and have the following advice from associates:

    1. Maybe cutter is off. Turn it on or enable it in the menu.

    2. Turn nesting off - front panel--turn it "off" or "disable".

    3. Also after getting into menu (press menu button), select the paper icon, be sure selected paper is "plain" or "bright white inkjet". If not change it to one of those. (i.e. Select one that does not turn off the cutter.)

    4. Also, in "control panel" and under "devices and printers" right click on the t1100 printer, select "printing preferences", select "features", be sure "disable automatic cutter" is NOT selected, click "apply", click on "ok".

    Another tech has told me:

"If it attempts to cut at the end of each page but fails, then replace the cutter and possibly the encoder strip.

    Otherwise, replace the PCA mainboard."

Still yet another tech has told me:

“The plotter settings are all subject to instructions coming from the plotter driver. Try downloading a new driver and install it. Tell the customer to use the default setting before modifying any settings in the driver.”

    Frustrating--he's 400 miles away.

    Thanks
    Paul Brooks

"Logme in" is a great tool for these types of calls! Saves time and we still charge for calls. Remote in to customer computer. delete/add drivers. test. and view web
    interface on T1100.

....sounds like a great tool. But if I'm dependent on customer doing anything to accommodate me, I think I'm SOL.

    pbrooks,

    like to know:

what program are they printing from?

or the program the used to create the program.

in ACad for example when creating file they can set " print as batch" "Print one page/time"

i would have them send you screen shots of: file settings and all others in driver that are pertaining to that.

if using Acrobat or similar make sure to check if: print one file/time AND layers (can slow way down)

I doubt that you have a mechanical issue with the cutter. A failing cutter will give you partial cuts and error messages. If you're getting neither one you ran rule out mechanical factors. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yeah, it prints at the end but not in between pages. So the cutter must be working, mechanically. So as Phil B. suggests, I guess he has a wrong/corrupt/or whatever software/driver setting.

I am with Phil in that it might be something with the software or the document itself. Scroll through the document to make sure is it not formatted as on continuous page. This is something that can be done remotely using "Logme in"

TeamViewer is great for accessing someone's PC and very easy to get going, and it's free. You don't have to install it, just run it. But barring that, I agree it's a driver setting or driver issue. What's curious though, is you say it will cut at the end of the job, but not between pages. If you disable the cutter from the front panel, the printer does not cut, until you press the form feed and cut button. I don't recall if changing the margin settings causes the printer to cut at odd times or not; I don't think it does on the T1100 but I would check what settings they're using. Regardless, it wouldn't cause it to not cut between pages.

I highly doubt it's a hardware issue. I wouldn't mess with the firmware, but doing the EEROM reset as a last resort is reasonable. If it's a T1100PS, and they're using the PS driver, get rid of that and set up the HPGL2 driver.

    Kiran
