Hi there, whilst on-site servicing a Konica Minolta my customer asked if I could help with their HP Printer as it’s stopped working.

it’s has a message “ supplies error” on the screen.

They use non genuine toners and have done for a long time?

How do we fix this?

The printer performs correctly, but 'Supply Memory Error' displays on the control panel. To resolve this error, make sure that there is not any packing material in the printer or on the print cartridge, or replace a defective cartridge.

I had a similar problem with an M281, on the official website there is only the latest firmware version that does not accept non-OEM cartridges in the printer, you have to search for it on the web from alternative sites.

I have had some time now to look at this and I think it maybe the black toner unit causing the problem. If I fit the toners one at a time, closing the machine up each time, then the machine asks for the supplies to be fitted but show the toner level of the toner i have fitted in the screen, this works for all 3 colours, but when i fit the black toner i get the ' Supply Type Error' on the screen, so we have orderd a new toner, will let you know

Just put another toner in. The compatibles are about 13.00. will take care of problem. We sell tons of toners, all compatible, the newer machines, like the M 479, M 528 DO NOT TAKE COMPATIBLES. Distributer say's by July or August there will be for those machines though. Will have to wait and see. Good luck. God Bless America!

One of your chip do not work. That printer dont have problem with Non-OEM and Firmware. If you already use Non-OEM cartridges then another set need to work. Take picture of your printer display and I will tell you what colour have defective chip.

Just seen the compatibles for the Hpm479, this is funny you get a pair of tweezers in the box the only other tools required are a pair of wire cutters. You cut the plastic on the old toner where the chip sits, place it on the new one and set the toner low to continue for some time. Sorry I don't have the precise instructions, but you get the idea.
