    HP-T520 24"

Hello all you helpful HP techs
I've wandered over here from the Konica Minolta forum with a technical issue and wondered if anyone could help....

We have an HP-T520 in our copyshop, it has not been used for about 4 months because the shop was closed.
First time switch on we get:
"Printer Failure: There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. if problem persists, contact HP"
    No code or anything else

So this is what we did...removed ink cartridges and print head, as seen on HP site. Cleaned excess ink in print head, refitted everything, got same error message, turned off and on, unplugged mains cable, still same message, removed ink cartridges, it recognised there was no ink cartridge. Before we order new print head, which I understand comes with starter ink cartridges, not sure if these cartridges reset the printer. thought I would post this for any suggestions

    Thanks

    Tam

If you can access the menu, getting an error code would help us help you. But ,If you don't use an ink based plotter for 6 weeks or more, your printhead is hardened up beyond recovery. Running head cleanings generally will consume a lot of ink ... and not help your problem. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Well known issue with these printheads. High failure rate.

    711 printhead
    C1Q10A

I keep at least one in stock at all times.

But, as blackcat also said. If it sits for a long time, it's going to clog and not be recoverable.

You could try to update the firmware

You were right, it was the Printhead. We replaced it and Bingo, stunning print quality.
    Thanks

I recommend to all ink based plotter users that the need to run at least 12 square feet per week minimum of full color image. Less than that, and your head will slowly clog up. If you think about the cost of replacing that head, the cost of a couple of prints per week is negligible. =^..^=

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I have the same issue.

Device was working fine, black cartridge prompted to replace, so we fitted a new (genuine) now we get the message "Printer Failure: There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. if problem persists, contact HP"

I have a new head on order. Can I ask did you also need to replace a set of inks etc?

The printhead will come with starter ink cartridges that you must installed to get the process to complete. Now if you set aside the partial removed ink cartridges and install them later (once the starters go empty), I have anecdotal confirmation that the partial cartridges can be consumed to the end. =^..^=
