Re: Designjet 500. x over ink ctg but no error
Are you talking about the little fan on top of the EMOD? Or the actual fan inside the power supply? The one on top only comes on when the printer prints, and even that seems random. I'm not sure the one in the power supply runs either unless it reaches a specific temperature. I've never really looked.

Re: Designjet 500. x over ink ctg but no error
I'm sorry but I couldn't get any more information. I did however find a reference to a 'special X mode', entered by holding down the cancel button and inserting the power cord, which apparently lets you send a firmware update.

I thought the display you're getting indicated a botched firmware update but I don't know if these two 'x modes' are related.
Hopefully the cancel button isn't just stuck?

Thanks, I'll see where I can get. I have access to a used ISS I can take with me, so I'll try this first and then put in the ISS and see if that solves it.

Re: Designjet 500. x over ink ctg but no error
I noticed that if I hold down on the cancel button and plug it in, the icon with the X immediately comes up. If I plug it in without holding the cancel button, I first see the HP invent logo for a couple of seconds, and then the X icon comes up.
If I try to upload firmware while it is in the state, my computer cannot see it.

Re: Designjet 500. x over ink ctg but no error
Ok. Make sure the wide grey ribbon cable that connects the EMOD to the interconnect board (that the front panel, service station, ISS, etc connect to) is free and not pinched behind the right support, that's the only other thing I can think of that might cause a ISS issue. Baring that, I'd try another EMOD.
Maybe try disconnecting the trailing cable from the EMOD, see if anything changes. You should get an 11:11 error. I've never had a bad trailing cable or carriage cause the flashing X business.

Going back out with an Emod and control panel. I guess I'll grab the wide gray cable too. Too bad I don't have a PS to take with me. But I guess if those other things don't help, the PS is the only thing left and worth buying.
