Check the connectors to the electronics module where the ISS is connected. Look for bent pins. Reseat the connectors. Disconnect the ISS at the ISS and see if the error changes. Was there an ink leak? Are the ISS contacts contaminated with ink? Clean them off.

08:04 is very misleading. It's not a problem with the front panel. In my experience it's the hard drive on the formatter board. But it may also be the formatter itself, or the power supply.

What happened to this printer that it's having so many problems??

Wrong question! Korrect: What I had done that I have to repair this plotter? It's in perfect condition, no ink on connectors.

After interrupt firmware update same error as to begin: "Print heads must be replaced individually"

I think it was a T2530 ... It kept telling me to re-seat ink cartridges in the right side ISS. Randomly combinations of yellow, magenta, & cyan. I could tell that the enduser had swapped in 3 different yellow ink cartridges, all of which were full. Sometimes swapping in an ink cartridge worked for a while.

I ended up re-seating cables to the right side ISS. It seemed to take even longer than normal to initialize ... then the issue was solved. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Sorry for my late reply - but my colleague has picked up his plotter and is only providing information sporadically.

In the end there was only an error message from the formatter! Is there something to watch out for when / after replacing the formatter battery. It was less than 3 volts.

I'm not sure I understand. Replacing the battery fixed the 08:04 error? That would be surprising if so.

The hard drive is the weakest link on the formatter.

I don't think the battery fixed 08:04, too. But I'll ask him about the last error code and write it here. Until then, thanks you.

+1 on HDD being weakest link.

According to my colleague, the plotter works flawlessly. When asked again about the cause, he did not answer. I can only speculate whether an error was actually displayed after changing the printhead. Thank you very much for your help!
