The wide format devices do have a built in utility that can update firmware by itself, but it can lead to interesting issues. If you have slow or unreliable internet service, a firmware update can begin ... but never finishes. It locks up the device. Powering OFF/ON will restore the device until the next time it tries to do that firmware update, then it happens again. On most of my wide format devices it is left on. On a few devices I have disabled the automatic firmware function, due to repeated disruptions. I also disable the message: "A firmware upgrade is available ..." because then some adventurous soul starts it, then it gets stuck. There is never an issue with USB upgrades. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Hi these models are a managed version of a Hp m552,m553
they have a small 16 or 8gb emmc card or even a 320gb Seagate secure hdd installed.
I haven't seen these machines ever ask for a update as in the service menu you can do a future smart update via usb and via the embedded site.
I know on the certain pagewide models you can go into the enable disable menu and enable firmware update from there.
