    C454 noise

Anyone ever have an intermittent loud squealing noise on the 4 series? Know noises are hard to troubleshoot on a forum but guess asking a general question. Figured I would throw it up here before heading out to this far away account. Customer sent me a video from phone, tried to attach but didn't work, must be too big of file. Never heard anything like it on all the 4 series I've worked on.

Any ideas on how to attach video so you can hear it?

    Thanks in advance

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

4 series right thru to 8 series black toner hopper drive gears can squeak when lubrication forgotten at the factory. Run reasonable coverage black pages and see if the noise coincides with toner addition.

I've lubed too many to count.

Are the drive gears to lube under the exit cover where pages come out and lay?

Nope. They're on the back of the toner hopper. Let's see if I have a pic? Yup. The grease is red:

But ... that is where you will find CL8. =^..^=

    Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean the sub hopper in the front of machine, grease black drive gears?

BC, are you saying I can see CL8 under exit tray? Cause it looks like quite a job to get to it following instructions in manual. Or any shortcuts to move shield box out and maybe spray electronic cleaner on clutch without removing? Just to quiet down for a few months until they upgrade later this year.

Please don't spray anything in there. It will just make it worse.

I think I have a procedure for that. Every time somebody says: "Oh, I can skip most of those steps ... " it goes really badly. That includes a fried PRCB. So my recommendation is to follow all the steps. I'll post it tonight. =^..^=

When it comes to removing CL8 I just remove the e-clips gear and bushings then slide the shaft out and work the harness out. Saves alot of disassembly time.

Don't forget about the fuser. The cleaning roller bearings and bushings wear out and can make all kinds of noise. I personally had pretty good luck just removing the cleaning unit all together. This gives you more life out of the fuser and the noise will be gone.
