Question 284e scanning issues - firmware numbering scheme

    Hey,

I have a 284e (not c284e, just the b/w one) that I'm having issues with. We are having trouble configuring both scan to SMB and scan to email.

I captured the scan to SMB ethernet conversation, and it looks like the printer is trying to negotiate lanman 1.0 or NT LM 0.12, which are both SMB 1.0 authentication methods. Now, I know that this printer only supports SMB 2.0 in its SMB client with a firmware update, so I was thinking I would pursue this. I don't understand the KM firmware numbering schema well enough to determine if my firmware is new enough to support SMB 2.0

The firmwares currently installed on our printer:

    Code:
    MFP Card Version A61F0Y0-F000-G00-K2(00)
    MFP Controller BOOT Program A61F0Y0-1E00-G00-00(00)
    MFP Controller Linux Base Linux-2.6.26.8-rt16
    MFP Controller Kernel Program A61F0Y0-1C00-G00-71
    MFP Controller SubSet A61F0Y0-1F00-G00-M0(00)
    MFP Controller A61F0Y0-0100-G00-K2(00)
    Operation Panel Message Data A61F0Y0-8100-G00-J4
    Fax Board Controller1
    Fax Board Controller2
    Fax Board Controller3
    Fax Board Controller4
    Engine BOOT A61F0Y0-0055-G00-00
    Scanner A61F0Y0-0023-G00-10
    Printer A61F0Y0-0050-G00-12
    ADF A3CE0Y0-0024-G00-10
    Finisher A2YU0Y0-0071-G00-08

    ZU
    Panel CPU A55V0Y0-8900-G60-00
    DSC1
    DSC2
    Loadable Device Driver1
    Loadable Device Driver2
    SD
    Voice Data
    Movie Data A61F0Y0-C000-G00-00
    Dictionary Data
    OCR Library
    Panel Sound Data A61F0Y0-C200-G00-00
    MFP Controller Thread Image Parameter
    MFP Controller PIC Image Parameter
    MFP Controller System A61F0Y0-1000-G00-K2(00)
    MFP Controller Print Controller A61F0Y0-3000-GH0-44
MFP Controller Print Controller Font A61F0Y0-3F00-G01-40
MFP Controller Print Controller Demo Page A61F0Y0-3E00-G00-81
    MFP Controller MIO A61F0Y0-5000-G00-J4(00)
    MFP Controller PIC A61F0Y0-8200-G00-31
Is this the appropriately up to date firmware for SMB 2.0 support?

As for the scan to email setup, we are using office 365 hosted exchange. We have a C258 at another location that is currently both able to scan to email and scan to SMB with the same configuration settings that we have on this 284e. I've verified that all of the settings are identical, and that we aren't running into a blocked outbound port or something. I've ensured external DNS is configured properly to ensure it can resolve smtp.office365.com and I've verified the password and re-entered it several times.

In both cases, scan to email and scan to SMB, we are getting server connection errors, for email it's error 107 and for smb it's error 535

If I've missed some critical piece of info please let me know. I've tried more than I've listed here.

You're firmware is two years too old. (1-30-2015)

    fwversion.JPG

You need level GDBM1 (8-14-2017) or newer.

Super helpful, thank you. How does the numbering actually work? It seems so arbitrary

As educated IT you already guess it, you will need newer FW.

    Hi,

Yes your firmware is outdated to support SMB2 & most likely preventing your O365 account from sending.

See this release note from Konica Minolta.

Microsoft recommended the invalidation of SMB Ver1.0 in order to cope with the Ransomware (WannaCry) issues.

Whilst the newer 'IT5" A3 Office Products (7&8 Series) support SMBv2 as standard (and even SMBv3 is available) the older 4e Series and 4 Series products only supported SMBv1. However, support for SMBv2 on these older products is now available as follows:

    “e” Series Devices

    bizhub C224e C284e C364e C454e C554e - Latest Mass Production Firmware GDB-M1 or later
bizhub C654e C754e – Latest Mass Production Firmware GDB-M0 or later

    bizhub Mono 224e 284e 364e 454e 554e - Latest Mass Production Firmware GDB-M1 or later
bizhub Mono 654e 754e - Latest Mass Production Firmware GDB-M0 or later”

That I couldn't tell you. Maybe one of the guru's here has some insight into the minds at KM software engineering. Anyway, all compatible firmware files will only be found in the "special firmware" tab. They quit updating the base firmware in Oct 2016.

Thanks guys. I spoke to the leasing agent and he said he's going to come and update the firmware tomorrow.

Here's an old tech bulletin explaining the fw numbering.

Lightbulb Re: 284e scanning issues - firmware numbering scheme

    Hey,

Just an update: The leasing agent came and updated the firmware, and now we are able to scan to SMB. We are still unable to scan to email, and we are getting the same error as before. I verified the settings against the ones in use in the other copier I mentioned previously, and they're the same, but it's still throwing an error 535 when you try to scan to email.

I'm not too worried about figuring out why that's not working because we're able to scan to SMB now. The copier guy did mention at one point that Rogers LTE Rocket Hubs have known issues with outbound SMTP traffic, but I'm able to telnet to smtp.office365.com 587 so I can objectively say the gateway isn't blocking outbound traffic on that port.

If you guys have any suggestions or questions that's cool. The copier guy said he lurks this forum, and he really appreciates how responsive and clever you guys are.

    Thanks for all your help!

After updating the firmware did you update the function version?
