    Correct Shutdown Procedure

    Is there a correct way to shut down and power off a 300i at night?

    I put it into sleep mode, wait a couple of seconds for it to "click to sleep" and then flip the power switch on the side.

    Is this safe to do for the the machine every day? I'm a bit energy conscious and don't like the idea of it sapping power all night.

    Not sure about this model but:

    the proper shut down procedure is included in your Service Manual (do you have that? if not why are you working on it without one?)

    and in the Users manual (user should have that)

    not sure on this model but putting it to sleep before flipping the main power switch I feel would be the wrong way to do it.

    It's my own machine I bought, and chose not to have a service contract other than the warranty period, as such I don't have access to service manuals etc. My supplier is very accommodating but I don't want to keep asking them questions, which is why I signed up here! All it says in the user guide is to turn off the power with the switch, but doesn't say if/when the should be carried out and even if it should be powered off every day or left permanently connected.

    You can use weekly timer(check user manual) but on that model I wouldn't recommend it. Power consumption in sleep mode and low power mode is very low so don't bother with it.

    i would just turn off the main switch if i had to shut it off otherwise just walk away from it.

    This is a diversion of a sort, but you may be interested:

    I was called out on a Kyocera that was "... not going to sleep ... using energy ...". I brought along my power box. It's nothing complicated, just a voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter in a box. So I plug in the box, plug the machine into the box, power on, and set a 2 minute sleep mode.

    The machine goes to sleep. It uses peak ... let's say 11.5A when printing. In sleep mode it uses 0.05A. Yes that's correct: 5/100ths of an amp. When I demonstrate this for my customer he says: " Can't you hear that fan?! That fan is running, using energy!" Yes, 5/100ths of an amp. But if it's the fan that bothers you I can enable Silent Mode, which will turn off that fan.

    Then it uses 0.03A

    Since nobody is generally as anal as they used to be about unplugging the machine from the wall every night, this hasn't come up in a while, but we had a couple of Mitas that the backup battery failed in the first year, since the customer kept unplugging the damn thing. =^..^=
    If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
