Scan to email failure - bizhub c284

    Hello engineers,

Hope this finds you all well, i know this thread were discussed before and unfortunately i have a client who needs to be able to scan to email through that old box, i have set up the scan to email function using gmail smtp server with all proper parameters, im able to successfully ping the gmail server but when i try to send the email i get server connection error 107, i have researched the old strings and i learned that the main reason is the non e models do not support SHA2 which is currently used by gmail server.

Kindly assist in getting suggested firmwares for upgrading namely: GB0-A9 A1610Y0-F000-GB0-A9.exe , A1610Y0-F000-GB2-K5.exe as well as movie data files and any others as suggested by the pros who tackled the problem,

Any other newly found methods (if any) would be much appreciate as im totally stuck and the client is shouting his head off on a roof top.

    Best regards,

    Ahmed R. Chamumi

Re: Scan to email failure - bizhub c284

what about just telling them the old ass machine is no longer supported and the need to upgrade to keep with todays security standards.
if they dont want to hear that, tough shit. scan to folder or a USB drive and email it from a PC

do they still run windows 3.1? windows95? on their computers? i doubt it. they HAD to use something newer and supported with their applications.
this is just a small example. i can go on for hours about this.
an 8-10 year old machine can not be expected to have the same functions and features today.
do they still use floppy disks?
    cars with leaded gas?

times change and so must they.

its NEVER personal, its just how it is now.

you are under no obligation to put a bandaid on a broken arm for your client.

Only way is to use the "level up" firmware for cxx4 models wich should work. If you are not a KM tech you will need to contact a such.

Re: Scan to email failure - bizhub c284

I assume the client is using gmail for emailing.
For these old machines i would use the restricted Gmail smtp server on port 25 .They can only email to gmail domain emails.

More information on how to setup scan to email using this method ...
Send email from a printer, scanner, or app - Google Workspace Admin Help
Set up the app or device with the restricted Gmail SMTP server

    1. On your device or app, connect to the restricted SMTP server:
      • Enter aspmx.l.google.com as the server address.
      • Enter 25 in the Port field.

    2. Identify the IP address of the device or app.
    3. In the Admin console, add the IP address of the device or app to the allowlist. Detailed steps are in Add IP addresses to allow lists in Gmail.
    4. Set up an SPF TXT record for your domain. Make sure the TXT record includes the IP address of the device or app so that receiving servers don’t reject messages. For detailed steps to set up a TXT record for SPF, go to Help prevent email spoofing with SPF records.

For example, if your device sends from IP address 123.45.67.89, add that address to your TXT record for SPF. Don't remove the Google Workspace mail servers in the TXT record:
    v=spf1 ip4:123.45.67.89 include:_spf.google.com ~all

You could try the version up firmware this gives the non e models the same functions as the C224e series etc.

This was my first resort but our company shifted dealership to Ricoh leaving us with limited resources for nursing these old beauties.

    Best regards,

On gmail you must enable option to connect less secure devices.
