The replacement of a HDD does not require new firmware..Movie data yes, but if you need f/w it's not because you changed the HDD. E

Its been a while, but doesn't a logical format for 654/754 Require a firmware upgrade? Or is that just Mode1-9 overwrite all data? Remember it being different than 554 and below

    Re: HDD Error

    Good morning.

We had to change the HDD. But with another HDD we get also C-D012.
In the past a firmware upgrade fixed this issue.

So we searchig the firmware for C754e.

    Regards, Paul

Looking at the trouble code in the service manual, it looks like you might actually need the firmware. I've apparently never replaced a hard drive in a similar model machine, as I know that I have never needed to do firmware (only movie data [and PDF/A fonts on certain models]) after a hard drive replacement, and I've replaced a lot of them. Have you at least tried the first part of the procedure below and done the logical format of the drive to see if the error code goes away?

    CD012

    Trouble type
Mount error due to hard disk being unformatted
    Trouble code
    CD012
    Rank
    C
    Detection timing

    • The hard disk that has replaced an old one is not logically formatted.

    Hard disk

    (2)Procedure

    Step
    Action
    Control signal
    Location of electrical components
    1
Logically format the hard disk and then upgrade the firmware.

    Re: HDD Error

I didn't change HDD on any machine above 55ppm, but on lower models, I always do physical format first, and then logical format.
Error code is normal when the disk is new or removed from PC.

P.S. Physical format may last up to an hour and a half.
