Try other drives I format mine in Windows never had any issues.

I tried 3 USB of different suppliers

Have you tried updating using FTP (filezilla), whenever i've had issues with USB's I used this instead.

Take a couple for USB drives... Had it where it only worked after trying the 3 drive. Strange thing is the drives worked fine on other models but not on the 8 series. 8GB and bigger does work too.
