probably the one way clutch on the feed assy. the black ones that turn the feed and take-up rollers
clean the bearings and scuff the shaft where the needle bearings ride.

Yes, it's an old printer and storage conditions have not been clean. I'll try to clean that clutch in the next day or two when I'm at the office. I guess there will have to be some disassembly to get to it, that's if I am reading the service manual correctly.
The issue with duplex printing is I suppose a second fault.
